Keeping Your Bed Clean & Cozy




As the temperature continues to drop, there’s no place we’d rather be than snuggled up in a fresh warm bed! There are several things you can do to help keep your bed and bedding as clean and comfortable as possible.

When dust builds up around the bed, it can cause a variety of health problems, including allergies. Although it is still important to dust your bedroom often, there are several good “life hacks” to help decrease the frequency of this chore. One way you can help decrease cleaning time when it comes to dust is to use a duvet cover around your comforter. Washing a duvet is significantly easier and less time-consuming than washing and drying a thick comforter! For your mattress, get a good mattress cover that will completely encase it, preventing the dust from getting through. As a bonus, there are waterproof ones that are great for protecting your mattress against spills and stains!

Whether or not you choose to have a mattress cover, it’s important to remember to vacuum your mattress as well. This can be done whenever you rotate your mattress, which should be done seasonally. For an extra boost of freshness, sprinkle baking soda across the whole mattress, and let sit for 20 minutes before vacuuming. This will help reduce any odors that may have built up in your mattress over the past few months. For an extra great night’s sleep, mix a few drops of lavender essential oil into the baking soda!

Last but certainly not least: pillows! While pillowcases should be washed weekly with your sheets, it’s also crucial to wash the pillows themselves. This should be done at least twice a year. After washing in hot water, simply tumble dry on low until they are fresh and fluffy again!
