Meet the Staff: Pam Orander, Manager Extraordinaire

This month, we here at Green Home Cleaning decided to do our blog post a little differently. Over the years, we’ve had the chance to meet some seriously interesting and kind people (and clean their houses too!). We figured it’s time you got a chance to know us a little bit better. So without further ado, we present to you Green Home Cleanings first Meet The Staff interview, starting with our general manager, the lady with the heart of a lion and the scheduling skills of a tetris wizard, Pam Orander!

Pam, tell us a little bit about yourself:

I like long walks on the beach, being pampered, traveling, and just having fun. I'm looking for someone who wants to be a partner, Can financially support me and my son, can hold a full time job and support themselves, has a home, car and cell phone in which they can pay for , spoil me, has a pool, will give me a better life, enjoys traveling, and cooking! Oh and did I mention - A place for me to move in to. Can't find a place anywhere. That would be great!

*editor’s note, Pam already has a home and a man, please no serious inquiries

What are your hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time, or with your family?

Live music, hanging out with friends, reading, movies, hiking, playing games of all kinds, playing pool, swimming, gardening and spending time with the people and friends I love, trying to learn the ukulele. But my very favorite thing to do is go on new adventures with my son. He is my world!!! Also, anything to do with swimming and water/boating/tubing I'm in.

What was your favorite show in Asheville? What did you like about it?

I have so many....Christmas Jam - you get to see so many amazing musicians all in one night. I miss Bele Chere festival we used to have in Asheville . It was a huge music/arts and crafts street fair that encompassed downtown where they closed off all the streets for a giant Asheville celebration that lasted for days. I Saw India Arie at the Orange Peel during the last year of Bele Chere and the atmosphere was amazing. I felt like I was at the best family reunion ever! What an amazing vibe!

Favorite food? Favorite Asheville Restaurant?

Mexican - Coculo's Mexican Restaurant on Highway 70 off exit 55 on 40.

What is your favorite local bar?

Definitely my favorite bars to go to are the Salvage Station and Ben's Tune up.

Prettiest hiking trail nearby?

Daniel Ridge Loop is my all-time favorite hike in Asheville/Pisgah National Park.

In three adjectives, what makes Pam, Pam?

Ambitious, compassionate, loyal, resourceful, trustworthy (this was a harder one to answer)

What’s your idea of a perfect Saturday night? Sunday afternoon?

Saturday Night - Hanging with my friends, hearing music, playing pool, cooking out, watching movies outside and yard games. Sunday afternoon - gardening, hanging with my kid, yard games, swimming and tubing down the green river!

Favorite memory from GHC?

The relationships that I have formed over the years with staff and clients. Some of my most favorite people in the world I have met over the last 14yrs at GHC. SO thankful for that. Cleaning for and getting to meet and know some very awesome famous people - people that have been here filming movies that we had the great pleasure of cleaning for. Some of the most rewarding moments were when we found things like lost wedding rings and returned them to extremely excited folks who thought they were gone forever.

What is something interesting behind the scenes that you don’t think most of our clients realize?

How hard it is to rearrange the schedule for last minute changes or all the changes that occur when a staff member turns over. Also, finding the perfect folks to work for us that project the image that Green home cleaning wants to express to the community

What was your favorite subject in high school?

Psychology, Math, and Science. I played Lacrosse in middle school, high school and college.

Do you watch sports at all? Any favorite teams?

Phillies baby!!! I can't express my love enough for baseball. Try to never miss a game.

What do you like about your job? What do you find rewarding in your day to day?

My environment. I work with the best people in the world. What I find rewarding is providing a therapeutic environment for folks to come home to and relax the day’s stresses away. It's nice to be in a clean environment with a clear headspace. I really like helping the families that truly appreciate us and the hard work we are providing. Hearing back from the clients on how happy they are with the services we provide and the difference it has made to them always makes my day. We don't do this much anymore but one of my favorite things about this job is going in and seeing new homes - how they decorate, house lay-outs, new neighborhoods discovered that I did not know about and meeting new folks.

Favorite movies? Almost Famous, Practical Magic, The Natural

Favorite music? Widespread panic!. Jam bands in general, I also love country music, Reggae, disco, motown, singer songwriter, classic rock, top 40, 60's/70's/80's/90's and more recent music but sometimes you just need to chill with ambient music. I can really do all kinds of music except trace, techno, and any kind of jazz.

If you could take a vacation anywhere for free, where would you go and what would you do?

Anywhere would be a vacation at this point!!!! I've never been out of the US so somewhere like Sweden, Holland, Australia, or any place with a beach and a cold Pina colada and I would be happy as a lark at this point. Red Rocks in Colorado and the Redwood Forest are on the very top of my bucket list. I Would love to do a long cross country trip across the US in an RV.
